The van is just a funny van we saw during the race. There were lots of creative vans, costumes, and sayings.

" The Mother of All Relays" is a 197 mile relay race run by a team of 12 beginning at Mt. Hood going through downtown Portland and ending at Seaside. The race begins Friday and ends Saturday. It is a long yet, very fun race with serious runners, crazy runners, and runners from all over the world. Our team was a group of Five Oaks teachers including Jamie, Brad, and Gail (more teachers) who volunteered. (Oregon teams had to have volunteers in order to participate.) This year we had one teacher, Erik Salkeld who ran the entire 197 miles by himself. He began Thursday and ended on Sunday. We saw him in the middle of the night at one of the exchange points on Friday. He was a little delirious, but some food and conversation helped bring him back a bit.
I personally ran okay. I didn't have to stop which is one thing I was afraid of considering I hadn't ever really run a race past 3 miles before. Here I had to run 3 legs averaging 5 miles a piece with a lot of hills. I did run a little slower than I had hoped, but maybe next time, I'll know a little more of what to expect.
The one thing I missed the most was running water. I felt like I had sweat on top of sweat on top of hand sanitizer. Yuck! I also missed my Mt. Dew. It was nice to be done.
